Jake Stigers and the Velvet Roots

Jake grew up in Idaho, singing in church choirs, absorbing his older brother’s diverse record collection and learning the drums before setting out for New York to get involved in the rock n roll scene. He built up a strong fanbase gigging with band the Velvet Roots, along the way supporting Patti Rothberg, Gene Harris, Pete Francis and older brother Curtis (the rest of the band have worked with Lenny Kravitz, Black Crowes, Enrique Iglesias, Tina Turner, Destiny’s Child and Bo Diddley to name just a few). The band now play hundreds of shows a year at some of the city’s best venues like Mondo Cane, CB's Gallery, Arlene's Grocery, Fez, Mercury Lounge, The Bottom Line, The Bitter End, The Bowery Ballroom and The Cutting Room, as well as short tours around LA and Nashville where they played the legendary Bluebird Café.

After selling over 7000 copies of an independently released album “Comin’ Back Again” Jake found himself playlisted on over 200 radio stations nationwide, charting alongside bands like Coldplay, appearing in the CMJ top 10, and proceeded to pick up the ASCAP Plus Award three years in a row and recognition from the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame on their new writers compilation.

Hitting well over 10,000 names on his mailing list (matched by another 10,000 on Myspace) and receiving a mountain of media praise with comparisons to Mick Jagger, The Black Crowes, Steve Miller, Bill Withers and The Rembrandts he embarked on a solo acoustic tour of the UK, returning 6 months later with full band and 6 months after that again with full band, taking in some of the UK’s best venues like the Borderline, Cavern, Live on the Park, POP!, Jam House and Camden Barfly, supporting blues legend Albert Lee and becoming a regular on BBC regional radio up and down the country.
